The policy decisions relating to the activities and schemes of the Board are taken in the 3 Statutory Committees, viz. Executive Committee, Market Development Committee for Spices and Research & Development Committee for Cardamom and the Board in their meetings held from time to time.

As regards day to day functioning of the Board, the same is based on the Organisational chart, a copy of which is annexed herewith.

As regards Administration,  the concerned section put up files to the Heads of Section who in turn put up the files to the Secretary, which are put up to the Chairman wherever required for orders.

As regards Marketing Department, the same is headed by Director (Mktg.). There are officers at the level of Deputy Directors, Asst. Directors and Export Promotion officers in the hierarchical set up of this department. There are offices located in different States headed by the officers at the level of Asst. Director and Dy. Director.  The applications received from the exporters for seeking assistance under different schemes are verified and in-principle approval is conveyed.  On receipt of completion reports of the projects, the same are inspected, the claims verified and assistance sanctioned. Agreements are entered into and assistance released. Periodical inspections are carried out and export-obligations are also monitored. The ADs (Mktg.) and Dy. Directors (Mktg) in the various Marketing offices and also in the Headquarters report to the Director(Mktg).  Director(Mktg) reports to Chairman in the decision making process.

As regards the Development department, the same is headed by Director(Dev.) who reports to Chairman.  There are Deputy Directors (Dev), Asst. Directors (Dev), Senior Field Officers, Field officers, Farm Officers and the lower level technical functionaries in the hierarchical set up of this department. There are Regional Offices headed by officers at the level of Dy. Directors and Divisional Offices headed by the officers at the level of Asst. Directors and field units headed by Sr. Field officers, Field Officers, Farm officers and Agriculture Demonstrators. The Field offices manned by Sr.Field Officers or Field officers interact directly with the growers of spices and perform the developmental and extension work. Applications in the prescribed format collected from the beneficiaries under various schemes are verified and cross checked with required documents. Physical verifications are also done wherever required. Based on these, decisions are taken for sanctioning assistance.  The Divisional Offices monitor the Field offices. The Divisional Offices are monitored by the Regional offices. They report to  Director(Dev) in the Headquarters.  The final approvals regarding selection of beneficiaries and disbursement of assistance are given by the Head office.

In the case of Research department, the same is headed by Director (Res) who reports to Chairman.  Apart from Director, the hierarchical set up consists of Scientist C & B  and lower level technical functionaries.  The main Research Station (Indian Cardamom Research Institute) is located at Myladumpara, Idukki district in Kerala State and the 3 Regional Research Stations are located in Hassan district, Karnataka, Thadiyankudissai, Tamil Nadu and Gangtok, Sikkim headed by the officers at the level of  Scientists C & B and they report to Director(Res). The various research disciplines functioning under Research include Crop Botany & Biotechnology, Agronomy & Soil Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Post Harvest Technology and Transfer of Technology headed by Scientists C & B.  

As regards Quality Evaluation Laboratory, Scientist C is in charge of the same, who reports to the Chairman.  Regional Quality Evaluation Laboratories are headed by Scientist C as well as Scientist B.  The laboratory follows internationally accepted procedures for various analysis. The laboratory offers analytical services to the exporters, traders, farmers and research organizations in spices and spice products. It also carries out mandatory sample testing for exports.

As regards EDP Section, Planning & Coordination Section, Internal Audit  & Vigilance Section and Publicity Section,  they are headed by Deputy Director level officers who report to Chairman.   These Sections have been provided with requisite supporting staff.
